Take your PADI IDC with Angel Navarro and Jo Armitage in Mexico. Instructor Development Courses in Spanish and English

Angel and Jo (aka The GoPro Family) run PADI Instructor Development Courses (IDCs) in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. This area of Mexico is known as the Riviera Maya and has to be one of the best places to take the next step in your diving career and become a PADI Instructor.

The Riviera Maya and nearby Cozumel island is home to over 70 PADI dive shops and with year-round diving it’s a great place to be if you’re looking to get your foot in the door and kick-start your career. Direct flights from all over the world go to Cancun airport (less than an hour from Playa del Carmen) which means it’s also easy to get to.

The diving here is diverse, with Bull Sharks visiting Playa in the winter months, beautiful warm waters and coral reefs, plus the marine reserve of Cozumel offering breathtaking sea life and drift dives. And of course the area is famous for its unique cenotes – fresh water sinkholes in the middle of the jungle.

If you are choosing where to take your PADI Instructor Development Course, you will want to get value for money, and that’s what we can offer. Jo and Angel are both Platinum Course Directors and together have over 20 years’ experience of running IDCs. Most of the teaching is given by them during the course and so you benefit from their experience both in the classroom and in the water, with the tips and advice that they give to you. They will support you through the whole process to develop your skills and knowledge to ensure you have what it takes to become a safe and competent instructor of the future.

Their IDCs run on a longer schedule than most others, to allow for extra workshops, dive skills practice and any remedial work that may be necessary. “We appreciate that a lot of candidates can feel insecure about some skills from more specialized diving such as knots, rescue skills or lift-bag, especially if their previous training was a long time ago or they feel it was a bit lacking. That’s why we include workshops to refresh those skills early on in the program so that our candidates can get comfortable teaching them before their final exams” says Jo.

The GoPro Family IDCs also include “extras” such as visits to the local hyperbaric chamber, as well as a cenote dive which is a great way to recharge your batteries and build lasting friendships with your team-mates.

While there you will receive the best service and receive the best instruction. Angel and Jo feel a personal responsibility to the future students of their IDC candidates to create not just successful instructors, but the best instructors in every way. “We hope that our passion and enthusiasm for diving and teaching is something that our IDC candidates can take away with them”, says Angel.

Once you choose The GoPro Family and sign up for your IDC, Jo will give you access to your digital IDC Crewpack so that you can start your eLearning program and get ready for your training. Revising and refreshing your dive theory knowledge – an important part of your IDC preparation.

There is also the option to maximise your learning and experience after the IDC by taking their MSDT Prep Program which includes five specialty instructor training courses to enable you to teach the most popular and beneficial PADI specialties.

If you are looking to expand your skills and knowledge outside of the IDC then they can also offer you the full range of technical, cave and freediving courses, plus disabled diving and adaptive teaching courses, all at special rates for IDC candidates.
